Sky gazing

This autumn’s sweet briskly cold air,
Makes me wish for a sweater to wear
…..While I gaze at the sky
…..As the clouds race on by
And the wind wildly ruffles my hair.

Giving Thanks

It requires a gentle nudge sometimes, but it’s always the right time to show appreciation…

So after the big feast the the running & playing & family time, once you settle in, be sure to snuggle next to one you love & say…”thanks”.

Thanksgiving we eat lots of turkey,
And prance around happy and perky.
…..We might play some pranks
…..But we really mean thanks!
For our life that we love is so quirky.

Thanks for a fun & rewarding day, today & every day.

Ah, November

It really is one of my favorite months.  The wind ruffles my hair, birds sing really loud in the morning & I can enjoy the tang of possum in the air.  They have a distinctive fragrance you know.  Maezi & I go out in the morning to look for clues.  We always find the clues – but never the culprit.  I wonder if the little possum who visited us so long ago is the one still visiting?

Mysterious Nature – (Maezi, guest blogger)

Auggie & I went out this evening to check for intruders.  We like to to check the yard, the hill, the sun dial, the pleasant rusty garden ornaments…

As we meandered around, I noticed lots of strange little things.  Worms, pill bugs, lady bugs, & ooh, 2 butterflies – a gold Skipper & a Mourning Cloak.  I like butterflies, but then, I would.

But now, I need help to solve a mystery.  I found something!  It was hard to spot from any direction…

I haven’t ever seen a cocoon like this before.

What in the other world IS it!?!?!?!?!?

& even more importantly, what will it be?

We like to go out in our yard,
Where we wrestle and jump and play hard
…..But knowing our history
…..There’s often a mystery
As we sniff and patrol, so… en garde!

The spiders BEEside us – (Maezi, guest blogger)

Even tho Halloween is over, the horrors just never stop…  all around us, nature continues doing her thing.  I like to charge headlong down the steps of the hill.  It’s just my thing.  I’m not supposed to go down there, but when no one is looking, I like to see what’s up down there.

Whoa!  this morning, I wasn’t really paying attention, & I was sniffing a step at a time – luckily I heard a yell & came back up, because an almost invisible danger lurked in the opening.

It was really an engineering marvel.  The web went across back & forth, all the way from side to side & top to bottom.  It was just like out of Harry Potter, I mean Hairy Pawter, with the giant spiders…(shudder).

& then I saw it…how close I was to bee-coming just another beautiful “butterfly” ensnared by evil.

The times, they are a’changin

Who knew that time could magically shift by an hour?  I was up & ready to go outside to do my thing & I was thwarted in my attempt…NO one would get out of bed to take me out – so I nagged & licked & bounced, with the occasional bark.  Maezi didn’t do anything to help me, but she sure chewed her on her Nylabone loud enough.  Then she pulled my hair.  That started a scuffle, so then, they woke up & took me out.  I guess she helped after all.  Anyway, I just wanted to enjoy the morning.

What I did on my Halloween vacation

Well, I barked a lot.  There were mail men & gardeners &  the odd real estate agent…really scary.  They skulk around the neighborhood & they knock on my door – sometimes reverse “trick or treat” & leave things instead of taking…  Why?  Who knows? & even dogs sometimes come to the yard & leave things – it makes me crazy!

Between choosing toys to decorate the office, working on our Christmas card concept & so many visitor interruptions at the door, we went minimalist:

………………………………….VAMPAWRA – Why did you sit on my cape?!
………………………………….It made me want to pull your hair – I mean drink your blood.
………………………………….It was really very annoying.

………………………………….FANG HELSING – It was on my toy.
………………………………….VAMPAWRA – So move your toy.
………………………………….FANG HELSING – Well, you were taking up a lot of room.

Trick or Treat

With ghouls so abhorrently keen,
To celebrate dark Halloween
…..Oh what’s in my pumpkin?!
…..A bloodthirsty somethin’
It must be believed to be seen.

Interior Decorating Doggie Style

We really like to hang out in the office, but so far, we’ve been prevented from helping with the remodel.  Today we were able to get in & pick our spots in the office.  We like to have our own spaces to take a nap & stash toys.  Since we have to share a space, I won the race to pick the cubby hole.  It’s like having my own little cave.

I like it so much, I tried to compose a limerick.  I’ve been woefully out of limerick land ever since the remodel began, so I thought I’d practice with this one…but really, so far, I haven’t come up with a rhyme to office…office schmoffice bloffice?  Any suggestions?

Helping with the office

Maezi & I are helping with the office.  At least we’re trying.  Every time we go for the paint, we are shooed away.  The dog gate was put up in the doorway & we were on the wrong side!  How would we explore the paint rollers?  How would we play with the blue masking tape?  How would we nap under the scaffolding?  Really, it was quite irritating.  What we lack in height, we make up for in enthusiasm.

So anyway, we like to hang out in the office when our folks are working… we find the clickety clack of the computer keys to be soothing… so soothing in fact, that it inspires us to nap.

Until we’re needed to help again with the remodelling.

Take one for the team – take a nap, that is.

The days in the fall are so lazy
The sky can be clear blue or hazy
…..We squeeze in our nap time
…..And plan for some lap time

We love the fall here…the beautiful colors, the cacophony of the adolescent birds trying to tell who’s who.  The leaves crackle, the coyotes howl & yesterday, we saw a Red Tailed Hawk on the hunt, circling our yard – so doggone it! – we raced right into the house.  Danger lurks where you might never suspect it…sort of explains the required mid-afternoon nap after a harrowing escape.
