Love Birds

A pair of Scrub Jays, I’ll call them Jayne & Jayson, take an interest in the bower of yellow Lady Banks roses over the Predator Preserve.  We’re just hanging out in the back yard & they swoop in & out underneath the roses…hmmm…what might they be doing?  I’m sure the male is the same Jay that was checking out the window the other day.  His feathers are vibrantly blue & he has very distinctive grey “eyebrows”.   The female looks a little disheveled – her tail feathers have raggedy edges could use some grooming & she has duller colors on.  Her grey eyebrows are a little splotchy & faint.

They’ve obviously like the real estate – ‘cuz in & out, in & out…

Unless you’re my height or maybe standing in one exact spot about 6 feet way…right near the fence at the garden kitchen window, they are completely concealed from prying eyes from the yard, there is activity – leaves flying, branches wobbling.  Hmmm…

Lucky for us voyeurs, the spot is completely visible from the garden window over the kitchen sink.  Sadly, it means that someone, someone taller than me, needs to wash the window.

From that vantage, we can see them come barreling in with varying sizes of grey nubby twigs.  Flight after flight, twig after stick after twig.
